Roy Ward - watercolour landscape artist

paintings of Northamptonshire and further afield

Roy was born in Middlesex in 1944. He qualified in engineering and worked for many years in industry as a design draughtsman. He moved to Irchester in 1969 and started drawing and painting in his spare time, taking inspiration from the many picturesque villages around Northamptonshire.

In 1981 he left industry to become a schoolteacher and taught Craft, Design and Technology for four years before deciding to concentrate on landscape painting as a full-time occupation.

Although he has studied art, Roy attributes much of his success to the encouragement and guidance given to him by Stanley Orchart, the well known Cambridgeshire painter who sadly died in 2005, whom he had known since the early 1980s.

Roy has now produced in the region of nine hundred paintings, including many commissions. He has also completed a few portraits and abstracts in acrylics, and has given many talks and demonstrations to local societies and clubs. Although most of his paintings have found homes in Northamptonshire, many are in other countries including France, Portugal, USA and New Zealand.
