For such an important building, Hatton Hall has had a varied history. It's recent conversion into a sought after retirement home came after many years of campaigning to save the building. Hatton Hall was originally built on land given to Sir Christopher Hatton in 1576 by a doting Queen Elizabeth I. The site of the building dates from 1783, but it has almost certainly been rebuilt since then. Although intended for personal occupation (a notable occupant was Mr Roddick, a partner in the Wellingborough Bank) it has been a home for boys, a seminary for young ladies and, in 1913, was let to the English Waifs and Strays Society.
