The Golden Lion, Wellingborough

Once considered as one of the four great manor houses of Wellingborough, the Golden Lion dates back to 1540, one of the oldest in the town. However, it was not until the mid 19th century that alcoholic beverages were served by Jane Oliver, one of the first lady pub landlords in the country. Roy Ward not only chose this building for it's beauty, but because Mr A Wilkin, who owned the house in the early 1800's, was both a printer and an artist too!
